Emily looked like the perfect mom. A steady career. Two children she adored. A loving husband by her side. From the outside, her life seemed whole. But behind closed doors, alcohol was slowly stealing everything she loved.

From Wine Mommy to Sober Mommy is the story of a woman who fought to keep her family, her health, and herself from slipping away. It is raw. It is real. And it takes you deep inside the hidden world of addiction, custody battles, sleepless nights, and the fragile strength it takes to rebuild.

Different from traditional self-help books or step-by-step guides, this memoir-style story shows the human side of alcoholism. The secrecy, the shame, and the fight to reclaim a life worth living. It offers hope, courage, and the reminder that recovery is always possible.

You won’t just read about it. You’ll feel it.

The denial. The quiet unraveling. The small choices that lead to devastating consequences. The fear of losing her children. The shame of living a double life. And finally, the breaking point where she had to choose: Surrender to the bottle or Fight for her family and herself.

If you are searching for alcohol recovery books, sobriety stories, or inspiration to quit drinking, this book is for you.

Read From Wine Mommy to Sober Mommy today and step into a story that will break your heart, stir your soul, and remind you that redemption is always within reach.

something I never experienced

I had no idea how hard it is to stop drinking. I cannot drink as it makes me sick. I wonder why we allow alcohol to dominate our society. It is weakness.

I am in recovery myself, this was a breath of fresh air. To know you are not perfect, mistakes will happen. As long as you get back up, life will continue on safely again. Great read and proud of you. Cheers to sobriety.

Not a memoir- a how to sober up manual

Not a bad book by any means, I was just looking for non-fictional account of a sobriety journey. This is kind of a 12 step story and it’s fictional. His wife and family are way too supportive and insightful to be real… but there may be some redeeming value in the overall story of the process.

a must read!!

From the very first page, this book grabbed my attention with how real and unfiltered it felt. Emily’s journey is devastating at times, but also incredibly motivating—it really shows how alcohol can quietly unravel even a life that looks perfect from the outside. I admired that the author didn’t gloss over the hard parts, like the legal battles, family struggles, and tough decisions that come with addiction. By the end, I walked away feeling both hopeful and deeply respectful of the strength it takes to choose sobriety and start over.

If you know, you know.

This book describes so many of the reasons I stopped drinking. It’s reaffirming the decision I made over a year ago, and it is still comforting and supportive to know I am not alone.

Moving story.

A very moving story. It offers deep insight into alcoholism and what it’s like to live with it and to keep functioning despite it. Told in an honest and often unsettling way, the book draws the reader in and truly makes you think. It touched me deeply, and I sincerely hope this story will help many others.

Drink less, play more

I guess, the author had the right motivation to write this book. Helping others to do it by explaining his story is a good strat. Good read.

Relatable

I found the characters in this book relatable, realistic, and well written. I enjoyed the pace of the message and appreciated where it went into more detail. It was enough to bring me along in the story, but didn't get too long or heavy handed. I will be recommending it to a friend.

Emotional, Heart Wrenching, Inspiring

What a powerful, heart wrenching story of recovery. It was so hard to watch Emily fall down in her journey, but the way she made it through was really inspiring. I teared up during one scene with her daughter; it really hit hard. I hope this can help inspire others to see that recovery isn't impossible, and a new life can be built. This was written really well, and I loved the emotion you can feel pouring out of every scene.

A reality check for us Mums

This book was a great tell all from an honest author that shares her struggles with how to deal with life and all it’s hardships. We as Mums often reach for the wine bottle as a coping mechanism but when you have to mark a choice it’s always going to be to choose your family. A must read for all women

A story of falling and finding strength again

This book pulls you into the raw truth of what addiction can do to a life. I liked how honest it was about the pain and shame, but also how much hope was tucked inside the pages. The story shows how easy it is to hide behind a glass of wine while everything else starts to fall apart. Some parts were hard to read, especially when the kids were involved, but that made the moments of change even stronger. It also shows that recovery is not just about quitting but about rebuilding a new life that is better than before. The writing makes you feel the weight of every choice, good and bad, without ever sounding preachy. By the end, you walk away believing that no matter how deep the hole, it is possible to climb out and find light again.

A Honest Memoir of Addiction, Consequences, and Renewal

A raw and gripping memoir‑style narrative inspired by Howard Kane’s own journey from functioning addiction to recovery. It follows Emily—a devoted mother whose life unravels when a routine wine habit escalates into crisis, forcing her to choose between surrendering to alcohol or fighting for her children and herself. Unflinchingly honest and emotionally powerful, the book delves into custody battles, personal breakdown, and the uneven climb toward sobriety.

I enjoyed this!

This book pulled me in from the first page with its raw honesty. Emily’s story is heartbreaking but also deeply inspiring, showing how easily alcohol can take over even the most “put-together” life. I appreciated how the author didn’t shy away from the messy realities of addiction—courtrooms, custody battles, and painful personal choices. It left me with both hope and respect for the resilience it takes to choose sobriety and rebuild a life.

A Candid and Powerful Story

As a healthcare provider, I value resources that show the reality of addiction in a way that patients and families can connect with. This book offers an unfiltered look at how drinking, often minimized as harmless, can take over a life. The author captures the secrecy, shame, and consequences that many women face while also showing the difficult but real path toward recovery. What stood out to me was the honesty, there is no sugarcoating here, but there is hope. I would recommend this to patients and families who need to see they are not alone in their struggle.

Engaging story with a powerful lesson

This is an engaging story with the powerful lesson. Being a mom is such a tough job and sometimes wine may start to give some relief. It's when it becomes an addiction that problems arise. However, it may not be obvious to others. This book's story of a mom's journey struggling and overcoming alcohol addiction is powerful, giving hope and insights to others in this similar situation.

A real help to understand and support

I got this book because a friend of mine is struggling with alcoholism and I didn’t know how to be there for her. The story is written in a direct and realistic way, without sugarcoating but with a strong sense of hope. What struck me most is how the author shows the hidden side of addiction while also making clear that recovery is possible. I found useful insights to better understand what someone dealing with alcohol goes through and how I can support without feeling powerless. A read that opens both eyes and heart.

Resilience in hard moments

Recovery isn’t a straight path.. it’s messy, painful, and full of unexpected setbacks, yet ultimately filled with hope! Reading this reminded me that confronting addiction requires not only courage and self forgiveness, but also a deep, persistent commitment to reclaim what truly matters. It made me reflect on how resilience is built in the hardest moments, and that even when life feels out of control, choosing to face the struggle can lead to profound transformation and renewed purpose..
